Our Story
The George P. & Susan Platt Cady Library is housed in the historic Platt Mansion, built in 1828 by Nehemiah Platt. His son-in-law, George P. Cady, would later make additions to the estate, making it a prime example of Greek Revival architecture. George P.’s son, George M. Cady, would later bequeath the mansion to the Town of Nichols under the two conditions that his former home be used as a free and public library, and that it be named in honor of his parents- George P. and Susan (Platt) Cady. The Cady family were avid readers and much of their collection of books, as well as several pieces of their furniture and personal items are still housed in the Cady Library for all to see and enjoy.
